11 Cops Shot At Black Lives Matter Protest By Snipers; 5 Dead; 7 Injured

Twelve police officers have been shot in Dallas at a Black Lives Matter protest, with five succumbing to their injuries. Three men are currently in police custody, while one man is thought to have shot himself dead when cornered by cops.

It’s the deadliest days for US police since the 9/11 attacks and is thought to be retaliation for deaths of Philando Castile in Minnesota and Alton Sterling in Louisiana earlier this week, though no official word about motive has been released.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown said this shortly after the incident: “We believe that these suspects were positioning themselves in a way to triangulate on these officers from two different perches… and planned to injure and kill as many law enforcement officers as they could.”

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings told the media: “We’re glad that we took down one of the suspects. We hope we have got everybody, but we can’t be sure,” he said.

Here’s some troubling footage of the incident:

And more, this time from a Twitter user on the scene. Just listen to the artillery used. That’s some serious weaponry…
