Houston, Texas. An H-Mart grocery store. Florence Monauer and her fourteen month-old daughter are out food shopping. As she turns away for a split second to pick up something from a shelf, she hears a rustling sound and looks back to the seat in the cart where her daughter is sat. Or was sat. You see, she’s no longer there. She’s in the arms of a huge creepy guy…
Monauer kept calm and retrieved her child and the man eventually walked off. “She was attached to the shopping cart cover and I think if it weren’t for that cover he probably would have taken off with her all together.” Monauer told a local TV news network.
During the scary event, Monauer says that the man never spoke directly to her, only her baby. “If your mommy wasn’t here, I would take you,” he said at one point. Houston Police are now working to identify the man.
Monauer wrote the following in a Facebook post afterwards:
‘I thought he was just an over-friendly guy and maybe he didn’t understand what was appropriate and what wasn’t. I didn’t want to make a big scene out of it and I generally don’t want to assume that people are up to no good. I’m so angry with myself for letting him hold her. Please be on the lookout for this guy!’
