The sky lights up flashing neon and bullet casings litter the ground from above. They’re coming from a minigun being shot from a helicopter. It looks like someone’s seriously annoyed the Mexican military…
That someone? Drug cartel leader Juan Francisco Patrón Sánchez, the head of the infamous Beltrán Leyva cartel. Otherwise known as ‘El H2‘, Sánchez was taken out in a surprise attack alongside eleven of his crew.
Attacks like these in urban areas are all but unheard of, but authorities are standing by their decision. The Governor of Nayarit state, Roberto Sandoval Castañeda, said the operation was a huge success…
“We had zero civilian losses. Yesterday’s events were done to protect and safeguard the citizenry. It is proof that Nayarit is, and will remain, at peace.”
Here’s footage of the spectacular incident. Does this go to prove that, finally, Mexican authorities have had enough of the cartels? It could well do. Then again, it might just show they’re targeting a specific cartel and getting a kickback from their competitors…
