It was the fight we’ve all been waiting for. Unbeaten UFC women’s champion Ronda Rousey facing off against a fighter that could actually match up to her incredible skills and talent. Most people still predicted Holly Holm losing the bout… But most people were wrong.
A minute into the second round, Holm delivered a brutal kick to Rousey’s head that sent her straight to the canvas. The knockout has sent shockwaves around the world of MMA and leaves many wondering what Ronda will do now. Could this be the end of her UFC career?
Holm is a former boxing world champion and is now the only person to have ever won world titles in both boxing and mixed martial arts.
“We didn’t want to be there for her counter, she obviously has knockout power. She caught me with a couple of rights so I decided to move around a bit. I knew that she still has power but you have to be within range to get hit so a lot of the gameplan was to move and be precise,” sad Holm afterwards.
“I didn’t want to be too cautious to where I didn’t let my own punches go, I just wanted to go forward but in a smart way. I didn’t want her to be able to rush me straight into the cage. There’s lots to it but the gameplan we had just worked out great.”
It was a Helluva takedown. Have a look at the end of Rousey phenomenal run and the crowning of a new champ:
