How do you outrun someone in a road race? Well, you need to be able to drive. And well, too. But it also helps to have a superior machine to them. If your car’s faster than the guy you’re racing (or escaping or chasing), then there’s a pretty good chance that you’ll come out on top. So for the police, the ultimate is to have a car that can’t be outrun. But that never happens, does it?

Well, in Australia, apparently it does. Sydney cops have just taken delivery of an awesome piece of kit – their very own supercar – a McLaren 650S…
$300k’s worth of car, the 650S does 0-100km/h in 2.9 seconds thanks to its huge 478kW V8 engine. Which, we’re sure you’d agree, is pretty impressive, no? It’s a little bit more impressive than our old 2003 Geo Metro, anyway.
So why are Sydney Police taking hold of such a car? Well, disappointingly (for them, not Aussie crims…) – it’s just for promotional, fund-raising reasons. They won’t actually ever get to drive them on the roads…
