A 13 year old boy has hit the headlines after shooting at two men who were trying to break into his home, killing one in the process. Lamar Anthwan Brown, 31, and Ira Bennett, 28, had parked up at the boy’s home in Ladson, South Carolina, and entered the property thinking it was unoccupied.
Fearing for his safety, the boy picked up his mother’s revolver and opened fire on the men, who quickly returned to their car and fled the scene. The boy continued to shoot at the vehicle as it fled.
Charleston County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Brown had died after being fatally shot by the boy. Bennett, who was later arrested and charged with first-degree burglary and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, had driven Brown to Trident Hospital after the shooting.
The boy’s mother had this to say about the incident:
“I tell my kids that if anything ever happens to call 911, but I also tell them to protect themselves if they have to. I never would have dreamed that this would have been a part of our day today.”
